Words By David Lopez
Entertainmentonfire Rating: 3.5 Matches( Out of 5)On Notch’s debut Raised By The People, he exhibits his cultural and musical range by fusing his Jamaican, Latino, and American roots. He uses the term “Spatuanglish,” to describe the union of all three languages, which he uses interchangeably on the LP.
Lead single “Dale Patra,” is a sexual club rocker in which he invites girls to back it up on him, and on the fast pace merengueton(merengue + reggaeton) “Que Te Pica,” he uses his melodic voice to scratch the females sexual itch.
The catchiest track on the opus is the bouncy “ Layaway Love,” a song dedicated to girl who deserves the finer things life has to offer. Love ballads such as the guitar heavy “Rosalinda,” and “Ella Se Fue,” hit the mark as well with their sincerity and strong song writing.
Notch has a good combination of party rockers, ballads, and various subject matter to make the LP an enjoyable ride.
However at times his voice and production sound redundant. Despite the valleys in between, Notch’s debut is a tribute to the people and cultures that helped raise him, and those people will definitely not be disappointed.
