So I leave work around 5:30 p.m to make it to the movie screening of Ben Stiller's new romantic comedy "The HeartBreak Kid." I get there around 6:15 and the theater is already full to capacity. I was upset. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Rather than see a "Meet The Frockers," part 3 with a "twist of "Something about Mary," i got to go to a live jazz jam.
It's a small world, check how i found out about the concert. Last week while I was waiting for the bus with some co-workers, i ran into a musician who overheard me discussing the Latino film festival and the movie "Rewind," in which i had a supporting role . He gave me some encouragement and we exchanged contacts as he was going to put me in contact with some of his acting friends.
Time goes by, and I shoot him an email, doesn't respond. So today( Monday afternoon) I call him and he tells me about this free Jazz concert at the Musician's union, local 802 at 48th between 8th and 9th avenue. I tell him i would like to check it out, but i had already made plans to see "The Heartbreak Kid," at 7:00pm at 42nd and 8th.
So me getting turned away was actually the best thing that could have happened . I went to this free concert, got to hang out with professional muscian's, hear their stories, watch them perform their heart and souls out on that stage.
Good music brings forth emotion, you get that feeling which raises your spirits. And this was a hell of a way to start my week.Live Jazz, i'm talking about saxapone, drums, bass, piano, trumpet, beautiful vocalists . Man, i had a blast, a ball. I wish you all could have been there. I'm going again, next Monday.
It's Local 802, The Musicians Union on 48th, between 8th and 9th, and they give a free show from 7pm ton 10pm every Monday Night.
